One of the most commonly used tools in CATIA is Hole. With the help of this command, the possibility of creating a hole with the specifications and standards is provided on the surfaces. The drilling process is summarized as follows:

first, create a cylinder of 200 mm radius and 100 mm height then click the Hole command from the sketch &ndash Based Features toolbar in Part design. Next, click the desired surface. The hole is placed in a position on the surface.

With the type tab change the type of hole for different screws and change the desired size. With Thread Definition tab thread the hole. Finally, the Hole is created on the surface by clicking on OK.

Standard sizes in Drilling

In design process Use standard sizes for holes in order to produce holes with standard drill. The use of unusual measurements is not recommended in the design of holes because they require special equipment purchase and therefore increases the cost of production.

Holes with flat end

It is recommended that in the design of blind holes, the bottom of the hole is not flat and it is considered a cone. machining operations of The holes with flat end is too difficult. Furthermore, since the construction of blind holes with the flat end requires special instruments, it increases the cost and time of the product production.

Hole interference with internal holes

In the design of the product, it is recommended to avoid holes that interfere with the internal holes in the piece. Otherwise, the drill bit is likely to be deflected from its original path or drill.

Imperfect holes

Avoid designing imperfect holes because in the event that a large part of the hole is out of the piece, it is likely that the drill deviates from its proper path. This problem will intensify if the hole axis is on the edge of the piece or very close to it. If after all the options have been checked, there's no other way than to use an imperfect hole, make sure at least 75% of the hole area is inside the piece.

Deep holes

Avoid deep and narrow holes in the design of the product, as they are difficult to machining operation. The drills with a narrow diameter are easily distracting from their paths, and their chances of breaking are high. it is recommended that the ratio of the depth to the hole diameter be less than 3.

Top and bottom surfaces

The design of the holes should be such that the hole's top and bottom surfaces are completely perpendicular to its axis. If drill tip enters a non-orthogonal plate on its axis during drilling, the drill will exit the specified path.

Add Hole Standards to CATIA

In order to add drill standards to CATIA and use them in the Hole instruction, we perform the following:

C:\Program Files \Dassault Systemes \B25 \intel_a \resources \standard \thread

Then, close the CATIA then open that again, other standards are created in the Thread Definition tab in the Type drop-down menu. To use these standards, enable Threaded option.
